Supply list for the Nine Day Workshop
A variety of artists' supplies exist. While we do not endorse any of the following products, we
offer these examples to guide you in choosing tools that will enhance your work with iconography.
Pencils -- 2 or 3 assorted drawing pencils, soft leads 2B through 6B and eraser. Some people prefer
a mechanical pencil.
Pencil sharpener and an eraser.
Water color pencils -- at least 2 or 3 watercolor pencils in earth tones, such as sienna, burnt umber,
etc. Erasable colored pencils may also be used.
A large sketchbook, preferably 14 x 17 or 18 x 24.
Tracing Paper - Master's Touch tracing paper, such as 11 x 14 sku# 218206, also available at
Hobby Lobby. This needs to be EXTREMELY transparent. You may also substitute a paper
such as Canson 11 x 14 tracing paper, 25 lb 40 gsm, sku# 671180 at Hobby Lobby. Avoid the
tracing paper at Michaels as it is not translucent enough.
Drafting tape or artist's tape

A good compass and divider. Not all compass/dividers are created equal. You can purchase a set
from Hobby Lobby. A better set is available from Utrech Art Supplies, item #83005. Be sure to
purchase a compass that has the extension arm as we will be using it. Metal dividers, are also
available at Utrecht, item #83007. You may know this item as 'calipers.'

Michaels carries both of these items as well.
2-3 Dropper bottles, such as the 100 ml kind available via Hobby Lobby sku# 102210
Brushes - Assorted rounds, and a liner. Kolinsky Sable is the best, and is highly recommended for
use with egg tempera. We recommend that you purchase a set of Richeson Kalinsky sable
brushes from Madisonartshop.com item # JR21101, 29.99/set.
Containers for water for rinsing brushes at your work station.
A palette to mix paint. Plastic 6-well are usable, porcelain is preferable. You can find an example
at Hobby Lobby, item #618165.

one, it will be helpful.
